Edible Crayons: A Fun Back-to-School Treat

My kids just started school (preschool and 1st grade), and I was trying to think of a fun treat after the first day of school. I came across this amazing site: Gourmet Mom on the Go. It has lots of fun food ideas. I came across the instructions for "edible crayons" and knew we HAD to try it! (See this link for the full instructions.)

All you need is pretzel rods, candy melts, and paper for the "wrappers." I got candy melts from Michaels in different colors, and had my kids help me dip the pretzels. It was a lot of fun. Then, while they were in school, I finished putting the crayons all together to surprise them with the completed product! Once the pretzels/candy were set, I wrapped the paper around them and secured with a little bit of tape. I created my own customized crayon wrappers in Photoshop, with my kids' names on them, and printed them on colored cardstock. Once wrapped, I put the crayons into their own little tins. Cuteness! Love!!

We were so happy with how they turned out, and they tasted yummy too! :) They were a huge hit with my kids. I put more of them in a pencil box, just for fun. They really didn't last long, though.

I think they turned out SO CUTE!!!! Hooray for school! You definitely have to try this out for yourself. :)
